Prof. Sudesh Balan is a filmmaker and a recipient of the prestigious, Prof. S. P. Sukhatme Award for Excellence in Teaching (2020) from IIT Bombay. His films are screened in renowned festivals like Cannes Film Festival, International Film Festival of India, Mumbai International Film Festival, Federation of Film Societies of India, SiGNS Film Festival, Bengaluru International Short Film Festival, Chicago South Asian Film Festival, DC South Asian Film Festival etc.
He is an alumnus of Dept. of Cinema and Photography, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, USA (MFA), IDC, IIT Bombay (M.Des.), and Dept. of Architecture, College of Engineering Trivandrum (B.Arch). Prof. Balan’s current focus is on filmmaking with digital tools, cinematography requiring high precision and developing scripts for films. His professional portfolio includes projects in both Hollywood and Bollywood.
He is passionate about restoring classic motorcycles, traveling, and tailoring
